There is no reason that you cannot conquer your eating disorder.

Why is it that high achievers are more vulnerable to develop eating disorders?

Posted by admin in eating disorders | March 1st, 2010

I am a top student in all my classes at sixth-form, have an IQ of 147 and I have been published as a writer at the age of 16. Yet how is it that I have suffered from a combination of 3 different eating disorders for the past 3 years?

And it is not just me every other person I know suffering from an eating disorder are extremely Intelligent and talented.

Basically what I am trying to say is why are high achievers more likely to suffer from eating disorders?

I would have to say it is the constant stress and pressure to live up to your name- to be the best. If you become obsessed with being perfect with your work it slowly starts to effect your self image- always trying to one up everyone, even yourself. You trap yourself in a vicious circle spiraling downward. I would suggest some counseling and to those around you with the eating disorders.

I understand you are an intelligent individual, but there is always room to learn, and my main advice is to learn to become comfortable in your own skin or your will never truly be happy, or healthy at that.

Best of luck.

I would think it’s because you are trying so hard to achive what you want, and you get so stressed over things and that would lead to these things.

because we have a fear of no longer being "the best" or if someone finds fault in you omg you just wanna die~so it’s easier to comfort ourselves with food & lot’s of it or we become so fearful we will eat to much & become so grossly over weight we’ll never be liked again♦

I agree with some of these previous answers, I believe that by striving to gain and then maintain your high status, the stress and the pressure to be "perfect" weighs you down, and you may develop these disorders.

Best of luck to you, stay positive=)
