I would definitely talk about the impact of the media on eating disorders and effect of the whole 'body beautiful' image.

The following links have some useful sociological information on eating disorders:

http://www.polity.co.uk/giddens5/news/eating.asp

http://www.pbs.org/perfectillusions/eatingdisorders/preventing_facts.html

Hope this helps!

I think people perceive individuals with eating disorders as disgusting, immature, vain and very image driven. Though these people are none of the above, they have an illness and in a lot of cases the eating disorders offer a sense of control, it may begin through image but when you start to uncover the emotions it comes back to control. Eating disorders are misunderstood and scary to people who do not understand them and therefore people tend to shy away, sit in silence and even ignore the issues.
